JUST DO YOU, HOMIE; JUST DO YOU
Sometimes: When one of my pictures on Instagram only gets 8 likes within the past 4 hours, an embarrassing urge builds in me to take it down. I thought the picture was cool when I first posted it, but suddenly after the lack of attention, I start second-guessing myself.
“Maybe it wasn’t as dope as I thought. Yeah, now that I think about it, it sucks. I’ll take a picture of some gourmet sushi next time, that’ll get a ton of love.”
It’s easy to forget of who we really are when everything becomes a popularity contest; and sometimes this guides us to do certain things for the wrong reason. Just yesterday I caught myself more excited to take pictures of my Eggslut sandwich because I thought it would get a gang of likes on Instagram than actually enjoying the food and soaking in the experience.
Life doesn’t have to be a popularity contest if you don’t want it to be. Be confident in what your interests are and don’t pay attention to the noise. Just do you, homie; just do you.
